Practice
Jonathan joined ALSC Chambers in 2022 after being called to the Bar and serving pupillage with Mr Hectar Pun SC, Mr Kamlesh Sadhwani, Mr Jonathan Kwan, Mr Edward Poon and Mr Earl Deng.
Prior to joining the Bar, Jonathan has completed his master’s study at University College London (UCL), where he obtained distinction scores in Restitution of Unjust Enrichment, Aspects of National Security Law, and Global Competition and Litigation.
Jonathan is developing a broad civil practice in all areas of Chambers’ work, with a particular focus on public law and commercial and chancery matters. He also has experience in advising or assisting on matters related to, amongst others, arbitration, contract, fraud and asset recovery, land (including adverse possession), building management, defamation, employment, disciplinary proceedings, insolvency, unincorporated association, competition, restraint order, trademark, matrimonial disputes and enforcement of foreign judgments.
In addition, Jonathan also takes a keen interest in sports law, and has served as a member of the Committee on Sports Law of the Hong Kong Bar Association since 2023.
Jonathan has appeared before all levels of courts from the Magistrate’ Courts to the Court of Final Appeal (either in his own right or as a led junior), as well as being instructed to attend arbitration hearings.
Jonathan is proficient in Cantonese, English and Mandarin, and can draft documents in both Chinese and English.

- Kwok Cheuk Kin v Secretary for Health [2022] 5 HKLRD 348, [2022] 6 HKC 831, [2022] HKCFI 3225 (led by Mr Hectar Pun SC and with Mr Anson Wong Yu Yat) – a successful ultra vires application for judicial review against the Secretary for Health’s decision to purportedly invalidate COVID-19 Vaccination Medical Exemption Certificates issued by certain specified medical practitioners in the absence of statutory basis
- Ndumbi Paul Mulumba v Torture Claims Appeal Board [2023] 5 HKLRD L1, [2023] HKCA 847 (sole advocate) – a successful appeal in which the Court of Appeal granted leave to the applicant to apply for judicial review on grounds of review first introduced in the appeal, where the applicant acted in person in the Court of First Instance
- Lai Chun Hung v Secretary for the Civil Service [2023] 4 HKLRD 440, [2023] 6 HKC 233, [2023] HKCFI 1590 (with Mr Aaron Lam DPGC) - resisting an application for judicial review in relation to disciplinary proceedings of the Correctional Services Department
- Kwok Cheuk Kin v Chief Executive in Council [2024] 2 HKC 76, [2023] HKCFI 3074 (with Mr Anson Wong Yu Yat) - an application for judicial review, challenging the constitutionality of the requirement in District Council Geographical Constituency elections that candidates must obtain nominations from members of each of the three District Committees ("3Cs"); leave was granted as the application was reasonably arguable, even though the substantive application was dismissed
